How To Apply

To be eligible for admission to the program, prospective students must complete all items on the Application Checklist .  The application deadline is December 1, 2009.  Late applications will not be considered.  Students will be invited to audition based upon evaluation of their submitted materials.  Invitations will be sent no later than January 8.  Attendance at the MFA audition, which will be held February 3 and 4, 2010, is required for admittance to the program. We regret that special audition dates cannot be scheduled.
 

The audition schedule includes:

  • participation in a contemporary technique and improvisation class
  • presentation of solo choreography
  • MFA program orientation
  • Krannert Center and Department Media Lab tours
  • faculty led discussion with current grads followed by lunch with grads only
  • open Q & A
  • video viewing of MFA concerts
  • personal and teaching interviews
  • February Dance 2009 (Mainstage performance of students in faculty and guest work)

Prerequisites for admission to the MFA program are:

(1) An undergraduate degree in dance is preferred, but we do accept students with undergraduate degrees in other subjects.  Depending on background and skills, students may be expected to complete other dance requirements.

(2) Demonstrated choreographic ability and physical and performance skills. 

(3) A minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4 point scale, computed from the last 60 hours of undergraduate work and any graduate work completed. International students must have a minimum TOEFL score of 550-610 paper, or 213-253 computer score. The GRE is not required.

Finanicial Aid

Financial aid is offered to graduate students by the Department of Dance.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Teaching, video and administration assistantships are available to graduate students. All students are required to apply for Federal Work-Study.

  • A variety of Fellowships are available through The Graduate College each year, including: (A full listing of the Fellowships can be found at The Graduate College.)
    • The Creative and Performing Arts Fellowship which may include stipends up to a maximum of $6,000 for a student demonstrating outstanding choreographic and performance talent.
    • The Graduate College Fellowship for Underrepresented Students provides fellowships in the amount of $8,000 which include a tuition waiver and are available to outstanding minority students.
